Bob Marley Bob Marley was a hero figure, in the classic mythological sense. From humble beginnings, with his talent and religious belief his only weapons, the Jamaican recording artist applied himself unstintingly to spreading his prophetic musical message. His departure from this planet came at a point when his vision of One World, One Love - inspired by his belief in Rastafarianism - was beginning in some quarters to be heard and felt. For example, the Bob Marley And The Wailers 1980 tour attracted the largest audiences at that time for any musical act in Europe.

Bob Marley's story is that of an archetype, which is why it continues to have such a powerful and ever-growing resonance: it embodies, among other themes, political repression, metaphysical and and artistic insights, gangland warfare and various periods in a mystical widemess. It is no surprise that Bob Marley now enjoys an icon-like status more akin to that of the rebel myth of Che Guevara than to that of a pop star. And his audience continues to widen: to westerners Bob's apocalyptic thruth prove inspirational and life-changing; in the Third World his impact is similar, except that it goes further. Not just among Jamaicans, but also among the Hopi Indians of New Mexico and the Maoris of New Zealand, in Indonesia, in India, even - especially - in those parts of West Africa from which slaves were plucked and taken to the New World, Bob Marley is seen as the Redeemer figure returning to lead this planet out of confusion. Some will come out and say it directly: that Bob Marley is reincarnation of Jesus Christ long awaited by much of the world. In such an interpretation of his life, the cancer that killed Bob Marley is inevitably described as a modern version of a crucifixion.

In the clear Jamaican sunlight you can pick out the component parts of which the myth of Bob Marley is comprised: the sadness, the love, the understanding, the Godgiven talent. Those are facts. And although it is sometimes said that there are no facts in Jamaica, there is one more thing of which we can be certain: that Bob Marley never once wrote a bad song. He left behind the most remarkable body of recorded work. "The reservoir of music he has left behind is like an encyclopaedia," says Judy Mowatt of the I-Threes, "When you need to refer to a certain situation of crisis, there will always be a Bob Marley song that will relate to it. Bob was a musical prophet."

The tiny Third World island of Jamaica has produced an artist who has transcended all categories, classes and creeds trough a combination of innate modesty and profound wisdom. Bob Marley, the Natural Mystic, may yet prove to be the most significant musical artist of the twentieth century.

CRAZY BALDHEADS

Them crazy, them crazy
We gonna chase those crazy
Baldheads out of town
Chase those crazy baldheads
Out of town

I&I build a cabine
I&I plant the corn
Didn't my people before me
Slave for this country
Now you look me with a scorn
Then you eat up all my corn

We gonna chase those crazy baldheads
Chase them crasy
Chase them crasy baldheads out of town

Build your penitentiary, we build your schools
Brainwash education to make us the fools
Hate is your reward for our love
Telling us of your God above

We gonna chase those crazy
Chase those crasy bunkheads
Chase those crasy baldheads out of town

Here comes the conman
Coming with his con plan
We won't take no bribe, we got to stay alive

We gonna chase those crazy
Chase those crasy baldheads
Chase those crasy baldheads out of town

SO MUCH TROUBLE IN THE WORLD

So much trouble in the world (repeat)
Bless my eyes this morning
JAH sun is on the rise once again
The way earthly things are going
Anything can happen

You see man sailing on their ego trips
Blast off on their spaceships
Million miles from reality
No care for you, no care for me
So much troubles in the world (repeat)
All you've got to do is give a little
Give a little, give a little
One more time ye-a-h! ye-a-h!

So you think you have found a solution
But it's just another illusion
So before you check out your tide
Don't leave another cornerstone standing there behind
We have got to face the day, ooh we come what may
We the street people talking, we the people struggling

Now they are sitting on a time bomb
Now I know the time has come
What goes up must come down
Goes around comes around
So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world
So much trouble in the world
There is so much trouble, there is so much trouble
There is so much trouble
There is so much trouble in the world
There is so much trouble in the world

KEEP ON MOVING

Lord I got to keep on moving
Lord I got to get on down
Lord I've got to keep on moving
Where I can't be found, where I can't be found
Lord they coming after me

I've been accused on my mission
JAH knows you shouldn't do
For hanging me they were willing yeah! yeah!
And that's why I've got to get on thru
Lord they coming after me

Lord I got to keep on moving
Lord I got to get on down
Lord I've got to keep on moving
Where I can't be found
Lord they're coming after me

I know someday we'll find that piece
Of land somewhere not nearby Babylon
The war will soon be over and Africa
Will unite the children who liveth in
Darkness have seen the great light

I've got two boys and a woman
And I know they won't suffer now
JAH forgive me for not going back
But I'll be there anyhow
Yes I'll be there anyhow

Lord I got to keep on moving
Lord I got to get on down
Lord I've got to keep on moving
Where I can't be found, where I can't be found
Lord they coming after me

ONE DROP Feel it in the one drop
And we'll still find time to rap
We're making the one stop
The generation gap
So feel this drum beat
As it beats within
Playing a riddim resisting against the system
Ooh-we I know Jah'd never let us down
Pull your rights from wrong

I know Jah'd never let us down
Oh no! oh no! oh no!

They made the world so hard
Everyday we got to keep on fighting
Everyday the people are dying
From hunger and starvation, lamentation
But read it in Revelation
You'll find your redemption
And then you give us the teaching of His Majesty
For we no want no devil philosophy

Feel it in the one drop
And we still find time to rap
We're making the one stop
And we feel in the gap
So feel this drum beat
As it beats within, playing a riddim
Fighting against ism and skism

PIMPERS PARADISE

She love to party, have a good time
She looks so hearty, feeling fine
She loves to smoke, sometime shifting coke
She'll be laughing when there ain't no joke

A pimpers paradise, that's all she was now
A pimpers paradise, that's all she was
A pimpers paradise, that's all she was
Every need got an ego to feed
Every need got an ego to feed

She loves to model, up in the latest fashion
She's in scramble and she moves with passion
She's getting high, trying to fly the sky
Now she is bluesing when there ain't no blues
A pimpers paradise, that's all she was now
A pimpers paradise, that's all she was
A pimpers paradise, that's all she was
Every need got an ego to feed
Every need got an ego to feed

A pimpers paradise, that's all she was now
A pimpers paradise, that's all she was
A pimpers paradise, I'm sorry for the victim now
A pimpers paradise, soon their heads, soon their
Soon their very heads will bow
Pimpers paradise, don't loose track
Don't loose track of yourself oh no!
Pimpers paradise, don't be just a stock, a stock on the shelf
Stock on the shelf, Pimpers paradise that's all she was

WHO THE CAP FIT
Man to man is so unjust, children
You don't know who to trust
Your worst enemy could be your best friend
And your best friend your worst enemy

Some will eat and drink with you
Then behind them su-su 'pon you
Only your friend know your secrets
So only he could reveal it
And who the cap fit, let them wear it (repeat)
Said I throw me corn, me no call no fowl
I saying, "Cok-cok-cok, cluck-cluck-cluck"

Some will hate you, pretend they love you now
Then behind to try to elliminate you
But who Jah bless, no one curse
Thank God we're past the worse

Hypocrites and parasites
Will come up and take a bite
And if your night should turn to day
A lot of people would run away
And who the cap fit, let them wear it (repeat)

And then a gonna throw me corn
And then a gonna call no fowl
And then a gonna "Cok-cok-cok, cluck-cluck-cluck"

Some will eat and drink with you
Then behind them su-su 'pon you
And if your night should turn to day

WAR

Until the philosopy which hold on race
Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abadoned
Everywhere is war, me say war

That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance that the colour of his eyes
Me say war

That until the basic human rights are eqally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be pursued, but never attained
Now everywhere is war, war

And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
That hold our brothers in Angola, in Mosambique,
South Africa sub-human bondage
Have been toppled, utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war, me say war

War in the east, war in the west
War up north, war down south
War, war, rumours of war

And until that day, the African continent
Will not know peace, we Africans will fight
We find it necessary and we know we shall win
As we are confident in the victory

Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil,
Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil

AFRICA UNITE

Africa, Unite
'Cause we're moving right out of Babylon
And we're going to our father's land

How good and how pleasant it would be
Before God and man, yeah
To see the unification of all Africans, yeah
As it's been said already let it be done, yeah
We are the children of the Rastaman
We are the children of the Higher Man

Africa, Unite 'cause the children wanna come home
Africa, Unite 'cause we're moving right out of Babylon
And we're grooving to our father's land

How good and how pleasant it would be
Before God and man, yeah
To see the unification of all Rastaman, yeah

As it's been said already let it be done, yeah
I tell you who we are under the sun
We are the children of the Rastaman
We are the children of the Higher Man

So Africa, Unite, Africa, Unite
Unite for the benefit of your people
Unite for it's later than you think

Unite for the benefit of your children
Unite for it's later than you think
Africa awaits it's creator
Africa awaiting it's creators
Africa, you're my forefather cornerstone

Unite for the Africans abroad
Unite for the Africans a yard
Africa, Unite

NATURAL MYSTIC

There's a natural mystic
Blowing through the air
If you listen carefully now you will here
This could be the first trumpet
Might as well be last
Many more will have to suffer
Many more will have to die
Don't ask me why
Things are not the way they used to be
I won't tell no lie
One and all got to face reality now

Though I try to find the answer
To all the question they ask
Though I know it's impossible
To go living through the past
Don't tell no lie
There's a natural mystic
Blowing through the air
Can't keep them down
If you listen carefully now you will here
Such a natural mystic
Blowing through the air

This could be the first trumpet
Might as well be last
Many more will have to suffer
Many more will have to die
Don't ask me why
There's a natural mystic
Blowing through the air
I won't tell no lie
If you listen carefully now you will here

Time alone, oh! time will tell

Time alone, oh! time will tell
Think you're in heaven, but you living in hell

Back them up, oh not the brothers
But the ones who set them up

Time alone, oh! time will tell
Think you're in heaven, but you living in hell

Think you're in heaven, but you living in hell (repeat)

Time alone, oh! time will tell
Think you're in heaven, but you living in hell

Oh children weep no more
Oh my sycamore tree, saw the freedom tree
Oh children weep no more
Weep no more, children weep no more

JAH would never give the power to a baldhead
Run come crucify the dread

Time alone, oh! time will tell
